Space Between China Tour
spacebetween.ac.nzThe 2015 Space Between China Tour was a four week Massey University summer school paper that was funded by the Prime Minister's Scholarship to Asia. A group of 12 designers and fine artists from different disciplines at Massey University College of Creative Arts traveled to the Chinese cities of Xi’an, Beijing and Shanghai. Our Space Between brief was to draw upon our experiences in China to create a ‘fashion design activism’ provocation and manifesto that provided a solution to a fashion sustainability problem. We worked with students from our host universities Xi’an Polytechnic University and The Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts to open up a dialogue about sustainability and new modes of learning though design. We also had to opportunity to visit local makers and learn more about their craft. The result was an exhibition in The Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts of our collaborative design projects. This collaboration was a valuable opportunity to explore different cultural perspectives and develop innovative provocations together.
